Colors of California Watercolor Artwork

I made “Colors of Virginia” last fall inspired by swatches of paint I kept in my studio. This version is my second test with a new state: California. I picked Cali next because my brother lives there and it only seems fair that he has one too.

Golden Gate

I started brainstorming this list the same time that I did the Virginia list (along with a few other states). I found doing another state that I didn’t live in much harder. Also, California is so vast that I had to make sure I looked to include stuff across the entire length of the state.

That pink

I tried to put in a few things that only Californians would know and a few pop culture references. “That Pink” represents “that pink door” that is so popular in palm springs. Pebble beach I made sure to include because my uncle loves golf. “El Cap” has double meaning– not only does it represent the rock in Yosemite National Park, but is also my brothers nickname from childhood.

California

If I am being honest though, my favorite color on the whole thing might have to be sourdough. I mean who doesn’t a good carb?

Colors of California is listed for sale on Etsy so you can pick up a copy. My next state planned is either New York or Maine. If you’re living in one you’d like me to work on, let me know and I’ll bump it up the list.
