Colors of Oregon Watercolor Artwork

Colors or Oregon Watercolor Artwork

For the next state in my series of “Colors of,” I chose to make Oregon. After spending a month there last summer (you can read about that trip here), it seemed like a pretty obvious choice.

I worked on the list with a friend when I was in Bend and continued to add to it as I traveled around the state. I was a few short, so I did some googling for “You Know You’re From Oregon When…” lists when I got back. These help a lot with nuggets you don’t necessarily learn as a tourist.

The first one I made was ‘Painted Hills,’ which happened to be one of the only places I didn’t get to go through while I was there. After researching, its high on my list now. I tried adding a little texture to some of these to emphasize more what it is. ‘Sasquatch,’ for example, has some “hair” coming into play, and ‘Marionberry’ picked up some little dots.

My favorite color on the whole thing is ‘PDX Carpet.’ When I was little I traveled to Portland to visit my Aunt and got to see the carpet while it still was in place. Years later, I heard a great podcast about its cult following.

Colors of Oregon is listed for sale on Etsy so you can pick up a copy. I am going to try to work on DC next, but if you live in a state you’d like me to work on, let me know shoot me a message to help with the color list.
