Calligraphy: The Law of the Jungle
When I taught a calligraphy class at the beginning of last month, I had a student who took the class so he could write out "The Law of the Jungle" by Rudyard Kipling. After taking the class though, he commissioned me to do the poem instead. He wanted two copies so I sat down to get to work as soon as I had checked off some of my crazy to-do list items.
I originally started the piece on some handmade paper that I had used last fall, but the fibers in it were driving me crazy so I switched to some cold press paper.
Getting the spacing right was tight on this one. I had to lay it out first on the computer and write a bit smaller than normal.
It was also hard to make two copies since I really wanted everything to be the same from one to the other. I feel like after typing it and writing it several times, I nearly had it memorized.
You may not be familiar with the exact text, but I am sure you know "The Jungle Book" and if you read the poem, pieces of it will stick with you from the story.
