Over the past four weeks, I took a frame weaving class at the Visual Art Center. I wanted to take this for so long but haven't been able to find a suitable time, but this winter, I made it work. I planned four weekends in a row in Richmond, something I never do, just to try this out.I am so thankful I did because this class was amazing. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer.What was great about this class was that we got to keep the frame we used to make future weavings. We also got a ton of PDFs and hands-on instruction about different methods to set the warp as well as styles of weft.The weavings I made during the actual class didn't come out great, I'll be honest. But 90% of them were done to test out something the teacher was going over. So they are a little hodgepodge-d together.The day the class ended I started my next one, though. This one came out great! I plan on making quite a few more and expanding my skills at weaving.For me this is a creative outlet that I can take with me to the office and do on the phone in the evenings. Most of my letterpress and illustration work requires more tools or attention span.
