Letterpress: Alternative Curse Words Greeting Cards
So if you’ve met me at all, you know I try not to curse. There are certainly times I do, its not my favorite quality about myself, but it happens. Most of the time though, I shout some “alternative curse word.” My most used expression is probably “Sugar Muffins.” I say that most often when I get hurt, which for a klutz like me, is all the time.
Running with the theme I have been trying of pairing little illustration with my handwriting, I did a card with a few of my alternative expressions. I designed the cut in such a way that I could also do some mini note cards in the future of all six together!
Printing was pretty easy the day I did these. I had grey ink on the press from another project and used the end of my day to flush these out. It was a bigger cut, but I recycled some paper leftover from Christmas Cards a few years ago! I also printed some flat 5x7 cards that are easy for framing.
The six expressions I landed on were: “Back the truck up,” “Son of a biscuit,” “Sugar muffins,” “Oh my stars,” “Shut the front door,” and, simply, “Fork!” A lot of these or similar sayings got popular with the tv show “The Good Place.” I have to say, watching the characters think they’re cursing but something else comes out of their mouths is one of my favorite things on the show.
Again, I only printed a few of this style since I intend on cutting up the little cuts to make individual cards one day, but I do love how the batch came out.
If you want to pick up a card or two, you can find them over at my Etsy shop. These would be great for something exciting or a congratulations for a friend!.
