Letterpress: Largest N Ever
One of my old students is now a monitor at the Visual Art Center. She has totally fallen in love with letterpress and has been buying up stuff left and right. She recently got some LARGE wood type and brought an N for me to print with. This guy is huge! Here he is next to a dollar bill so you can see for yourself. The N alone has an incredible amount of character. The wood certainly shows its' age and you can tell where it has been put back together from years of wear and tear. First, I printed it on smooth stock so we could see the flaws come to life. Check out the missing chunk on the right. That is from a saw cutting into it!Then I used some textured paper and printed it again. This paper has wood grain in it and I am hoping to do something else with it in the future. Printing the N with it hid some of the details of the N but really highlighted the interesting paper. She has a few more of these larger letters and if I can think of a project to use them for, I might try. But for now I am happy with my N and plan on keeping it in my bedroom!
