I love working on custom letterpress prints. Every once in awhile though when someone requests to work with me, they really GET the process. When that happens, I know I am in for a good project. This client wanted to print "Walk through fear" for her boyfriend's birthday.

She mentioned liking some of my other wood type set prints, so I went with what I knew to create these for her. We went back and forth while I was printing to make sure it was just right.

I love the look of wood type and my client was incredibly trusting. She listened to all my suggestions of the way it should be laid out and styled.

One thing she was not sure about was color. If you've seen anything I've made before, you know I am in love with this particular grey. I like using it because it runs smoothly over the type and it lends itself so well to the medium.

Even though we went with the grey ultimately, she wanted to see what gold looked like. So, I did a print with a gold highlight on a single word, and then one with full gold.

Gold is always a challenge because it never looks like what people expect. Gold foiling is SUPER shiny, but when you print with antique gold on a letterpress, it comes out subtle. But we went for it anyway so we could compare them all.

In the end, I sent her one of each copy so she could test it. I have a few leftover I plan on listing online. Overall, both the client and I love how the final piece came out. If you want to get your own quote printed, contact me to see what we can make together.
