Stained Glass: Modern Triangles
A few years ago I made a stained glass piece for my dad. The first post in that project can be found here and the final hanging in my parents house here. I loved this project and at the time didn't have a place to put a piece of glass in my own apartment. Well flash-forward a few years later and I have a perfect home to keep some glass in. I designed these three myself in illustrator. Here are the templates I used:After talking it out with my instructor, I decided I needed a few more shapes inside each triangle. Over at the Visual Art Center, there are a bunch of scrap bins you can donate to and use from. Think: take a penny, leave a penny. I searched through the greys to find some additional bits to complete the project.I began cutting on the first day of class and got a lot farther than I thought. I drew the extra spaces in with sharpie and just kinda free formed these guys. I was probably looser than I should have been for being out of practice for a few years, but I rolled with it.After cutting and grinding all the class, you foil the pieces. I did this pretty quickly as the shapes were really straightforward. The edges of the wavy glass were troublesome for me.Then you tighten it all up and solder away! I think I am not patient enough for this step truthfully. You have to go a little slower than I like moving, but I worked on my speed. Here they are all soldered with the edges waiting to be attached! And the final three pieces of glass. I love how this triptych came out! There is a lot of texture happening, and while the shapes are different, there are pieces from the same glass in each one.I don't have the PERFECT spot for these three but will find one soon. For now they are in my room and I keep eyeing them. They are beautiful and I already started on a new piece for my kitchen using some of the same grey and clear glass.
