travel: cherry blossoms

Even though I am from DC, I haven't been to see the Cherry Blossoms in years! There was a concert in DC over the weekend and when I realized it fell over the festival week, I jumped on the opportunity to go see the beautiful flowers that line the tidal basin.

I got up on Friday night as usual - but had made special plans. My boyfriend and I got dinner at Eammons (a personal favorite) and then went to the PX. He had never been before and it was my second time. I love it. You follow the blue light up back stairs and into a speakeasy. It is so intimate and the drinks were fabulous. As we got to know our waiter, we realized he actually works at the place we had planned to have dinner the following evening! Such a small world. I had a drink called "gabrielle doesn't always drink vodka, but when she does she prefers it like this." It had this red wine floating on top and was delicious. The next day we headed into the city early in the morning. The blossoms were just beautiful this year. I think the tens of thousands of others that were in the city with us would have to agree! The crowds were a nightmare and I was really frustrated with the metro once we were IN the city, but am still thankful for the weather and the time spent walking. You can expand the picture below larger to see the scene. Just look at them! This one is my personal favorite. I was trying to get one with the Jefferson Memorial (classic) but the people by the water were nuts! After all the crowds, we headed to meet up with friends in a quieter area of the city.
