Home: Flooring Updates

When I discovered a tiny problem in a closet in the Spring, I had no idea it’d lead me to overhaul my entire kitchen flooring– and then go on to inspire changes to the rest of my house! In February, while working from home, I noticed the closet where my HVAC unit was had a squishy floor. Never a good thing. Insurance came to look and the leak that caused this rotting hole in my floor was unfortunately NOT covered. None the less, I knew I had to take care of it.

I decided that if I had to tear up my floor to the subfloor to repair a hole, I’d replace the flooring on top too. After all, matching cheap linoleum back to what was there was going to be a huge pain. I got a few quotes but ultimately decided to have “On the Spot Floors” come help me do the work. They won me over when their shop cat helped me pick out the right color!

Progress

With all the rest of the world doing home repairs, we set a date a few months out when I knew I’d be back from my van trip this summer. When they came in to start months later, I realized the wrong color flooring had been ordered. They graciously reordered the right color and came back two weeks later. This did mean that my house was a little chaotic in-between, but getting the right color meant a lot. This is why you work with small businesses.

I am in love with how my flooring has come out. Not that I have had a lot of guests over in a pandemic, but he few that have seen it noted just how much bigger it’s made the space FEEL. It’s shocking actually. At the same time, I opted to redo both my upstairs bathrooms with the matching tile since they had also been done in the cheap linoleum.

Here is a solid before & after shot! You can really tell in the below show how the tiles running the length of the room make it look so much larger. They run the full length of the kitchen into the downstairs bathroom. All three bathrooms in my house now have the same tile.

My house was in need of a refresh and these tiles sealed it. It has definitely inspired me to do more. I even freshened up some of my kitchen countertops to better coordinate.
