Travel: Paris

The last city on my Thanksgiving trip to Europe was Paris. Click the name of the city to see the blog posts for Amsterdam and Brussels. It was mighty cold and the city had just erupted in riots on our arrival, but it was still gorgeous and filled with art & romance. The night we arrived, we had dinner with one of my coworkers and his daughter. After we went to the Experimental Cocktail Club for drinks.

We woke up the next day to wander the city. We had breakfast just around the corner in a tiny cafe that was perfect.

We decided to use the first day to go to the Musée d'Orsay since it was raining. It wasn't too far from our Airbnb so we walked there.

Even though we had tickets we had to stand in line outside. That was the worst of it though.

Once inside, I was overwhelmed. I did the Louvre the last time I was in Paris, but didn't realize this museum was as large as it was. And the architecture was to die for.

We saw more Van Gogh, just like in Amsterdam. Third time on this trip I had seen the Blue Bedroom. My favorites were the ballet dancers from Degas.

The Colonnes de Buren were not here the last time I was in the city so I wanted to stop by and see them. As a lover of black and white it was high up on my list of to-dos. We got there so early that it was empty save for a few birds.

We stopped in the Notre-Dame Cathedral and heard choirs singing as well as a modern art museum. We finally went down to Champs-Élysées before our final meal. We waited till the rioting was done and saw some of the aftermath, broken glass and smashed sidewalks.

Our last dinner was delicious and hilarious. They brought each table their own personal chalkboard with a chair to read that days dishes.

The first time I was in Paris, my tour group was robbed while at dinner. It was also 95+ degrees, thunder storming and filled with festivals. This time, it was 20 degrees and the streets were filled with Christmas and RIOTS. Nex time, maybe I'll visit in the Spring when things have settled down.
