Watercolor Save the Date Postcards
This Save the Date was such a joy to work on. It combined so many of my favorite things. A friend of mine is a wedding planner in Northern Virginia, and one of her brides was looking to highlight their venue for their Save the Date. She thought of my house illustrations and put us in contact.
The first proof
Immediately, I knew I would love this project. This couple is really passionate about local & national parks and were selfless in thinking through their wedding details. We talked about doing a portrait of their venue on the front that anyone would want to keep instead of putting their faces on it. They also have collected "stamps" from different parks, so I wanted to make them their "own stamp" for the back of the card.
I spent an afternoon illustrating the house and watercoloring it. Then I scanned it in to use on the postcard. The couple will get to keep the illustration for their home after the project.
After finishing the illustration, I scanned it and added it to my digital file. I got the client approval after just one round of revisions and sent it off to the printer! I chose an off white paper with just a little tooth so it would look more like watercolor paper.
I love how they came out! It's so much fun seeing them all lined up in a row.
They also ordered some envelopes to send them in so that they got the postcard feel, without ruining the illustration.
Here is a more detailed shot!
And here is the ORIGINAL illustration with the postcard on top!
I truly hope for more projects like this in the future. It combines so many of thing things I love into one area. If you are interested in getting some custom save the dates, reach out to me so we can make something together.
